This week marked the end of Red Garden. It appears that the DVDs will start being released in the UK from October and I recommend that people who enjoyed the series should buy them.

Next week (24 July) in it’s place we will show a sports OVA titled Azusa Will Help. There will also be a trailer announcing the long term replacement which will commence on 31st July.

Japanese Lessons

Filed under: Uncategorized — Marcus Downing @ 4:07 pm

Anybody in the Basingstoke or Reading area who’s interested in learning Japanese should come to The Castle this Monday (18 June 2007) at 7:00 pm. There we will be meeting Araki-sensei, a private teacher based in Reading, to discuss where and when to hold lessons.

If for any reason you can’t make it to that meeting (for example because you’re reading this six months later), send us an email with the link above and we’ll happily fill you in with information.

The end of an era

Filed under: Anime — Marcus Downing @ 12:25 am

I suppose most eras are normally longer than six months, but we have been showing School Rumble ever since the society started, so it feels significant that it’s now it’s finished - barring a mythical third season. This epic comedy will be replaced with the deep, tragic and emotional tale of Jungle wa Itsumo Hale nochi Guu. Good watching and god speed.

Technical dificulties and the end of St Luminous

Filed under: Anime, Meetings, Chat — Robert Green @ 8:42 pm

On Tuesday those of you who were there know that we suffered from technical difficulties. We are currently working on a better backup plan to deal with this should it happen again, so hopefully we will be back to normal from now on.

Also the last and final St Luminous Mission High School was shown and everyone now understands exactly what it was about. From 3rd April this will be replaced by Love Pheromone. A magical girl show with a twist (or possibly just a twisted magical girl show)

This coming Tuesday (27th March 2007) we will show the first two episodes of Izumo and the final episode of St Luminous which will be replaced the following week.

Also we would like to repeat our suggestion that all refreshments should be purchased from the bar.

New Shows, New Leaflets

Filed under: Anime, Meetings — Marcus Downing @ 6:54 pm

New Leaflets
Two series have come to an end simultaneously this week: Scrapped Princess and Soul Link. We asked everyone on the forums what it was they’d like to see those series replaced with, then we interpreted what they said through BabelFish and a sheet of muslin, and came out with the following choices:

  • We’ll be starting the evening at 7:00 with St Luminous Mission High School
  • That will be followed by Demonbane

And of course, we’ll continue to show School Rumble in our final slot for as long as we’re able. If you’d like to have some input on what to replace those series with, make your feelings known in person or on our forums.

In other news, we’ve got a new batch of leaflets printed, and are going to start putting them further afield. If anybody has a good idea for a place to put the leaflets, talk to us at the next meeting and we’ll give you a batch.
