The First Meeting is Over - See You Again Next Week

Filed under: Anime, Meetings — Robert Green @ 12:00 am

There was a good turn out for our opening event, and as far as I could tell a good time was had by all. We will continue to hold these events Every Tuesday until the landlord tells us to stop or people stop turning up.

Now the important bit, what did we watch? (This was the general attitude of everyone who stayed to the end)

REC: Voice actress meets office worker - romcom.
Black Cat: Bounty hunters and assasins - action.
St Luminous: Mystery set in a girls school - mystery
Paradise Kiss: Smart girl becomes fashion model - drama

AMVs

School Rumble: Wierd love triangle - romcom
Club to Death Angel: Angel from the future tries to save the life of a boy (by killing him) - F*cked up
Kage Kare Mamarou: A ninja secretly protects his neighbour - harem comedy
Hanaukyo Maid Tai: Boy inherits a large mansion full of maids from his grandfather - Impure filth

A vote took place to determine two from each section to be shown in full. The results will be posted sometime on Friday and a running order will be posted on Monday.

Please use the comments section to provide your opinions on the evening and the anime shown.

  3. I’m glad you enjoyed it. A lot of people left early so don’t worry about it. (Beating angel is one of my favourites as well)

As for the FMA music vid: http://www.toothycat.net/amv.html All of the others are available from http://www.animemusicvideos.org/ and if I could remember what we showed I could help find them on there.

  4. “Hanaukyo Maid Tai: Impure filth” You can say that again… That stuff was as far as you could go without calling it hentai! It shocked, appalled, and amused me. Good choice ^.^

Seriously though. Great evening. Some good choices in there. Just wish I didn’t have to drive, then I COULD’VE had something to drink.

Don’t know if I can make next week but I’ll see what I can do.

    Cheers guys

  6. If anybody didn’t get round to voting, then email me your votes. I think we have enough to make a decision, but every little helps.

  8. Couldn’t make it last night as I only saw the sign outside The Castle on my way past earlier in the day, a bit late to change my plans!

I’m a member of Genesis, the local SF group, and while some of our members hate anime (so we don’t get away with showing it at the club), others like it and I hope to bring a few of them along, probably on the 26th as that is straight after our next meeting.

  9. Doctor7 - Good to hear that advertising works. As I always say on these occations, the more the merrier. On the 26th we will likely be showing episodes 3 and 4 of our regular series (The winners of last night’s vote), but I’m sure people will help bring you (and anyone you talk into coming) up to speed on the plots.

  10. I imagine there’s some overlap between the anime and sci-fi crowds. Certainly any of them are welcome to come along to a showing.

But before we get an influx of members, we really must figure out a better way of arranging the chairs and tables.

  11. I agree.. The only thing I didnt like about the setup was the banister rail thing which managed to obscure my view of the subs unless i sat bolt upright

  12. we could move the seating forward a bit - what was with everyone being crammed in the back?? there
were no problems with seating during the world cup in there and that whole side of the pub was
jam-packed with people and no one had a problem with not being able to see.

if the railing was blocking the way why didn’t you move?

    Comment by Chii — September 14, 2006 @ 12:23 pm

  13. We didn’t have time to move the seating as much as we’d have liked. Someone (naming no names) had trouble getting the computer to output to the projector, (because they had put the audio out into the video in). So while I should have been moving tables and chairs, and familiarising myself with the video controls, I was sent on a wild goose chase to get new cables.

Next week we will hopefully have more time to set up seating, (and now have a better idea of how many people to expect). But the world cup is a bad analogy the bottom of the screen is rarely important during a football match but is vital for subtitled anime.

  14. That’s a little unfair, Rob - the wiring in that place is seriously screwy. Every time I touch it, I’m praying it doesn’t come apart in my hands.
