If it’s animated, it’s anime.
If it’s a comic book, it’s manga.

Lots of people have gotten confused because of the large company called Manga that makes anime, and because lots of shops had the wrong labels for many years. But if you were told that your DVD was manga then they were wrong.

If it helps clear it up, the word anime comes from the French “bandes animées”, meaning a moving film. The word manga is a native japanese word meaning “crazy images”, and borrowed heavily from earlier subversive japanese artforms like ukiyo-e (which was, among other things, Japan’s first exposure to mass-produced porn - see episode 5 of Samurai Champloo).

I assumed that was what was meant, but the confusion comes when series like Chobits and Fruits Basket come to be shown on TV series, are they Manga, because thats what they
were or are they anime, as they are now shown in animation. I don’t know the answer, and when I said to asked someone recently whether the chobits DVD i bought was Anime or
Manga, they said Manga. So I am still confused.

I couldn’t make it tonight, with packing and an early start, I am disappointed and I hope it turns out to be a great evening for all. Please post what you watched so I can
read up.

As a point of clarification:
Anime -> Animation
Manga -> Comic Book
therefore Manga series make for bad TV.

I was wondering what time you would finish, I forgot whilst thinking I don’t have to go to Paris until Wednesday, I do have to get up at 4am. Doing
the maths, 8 series must be at least 3-4 hours. I may not be able to commit to coming to this event but I will remain interested, especially in the
discussions on the Anime Series (one point of confusion is are you including Manga series too) If I don’t make it I hope it turns out to be a great
event. Good Luck
